The fellows are the backbone of the system. The worker bees. The heavy lifters. The individuals who don’t want to sit on the sidelines and accept the current circumstances. Our Fellows go through intense training focusing on leadership, sustainable development, and organizational learning. Once a Fellow has completed Village Corps Fellows Training, they are ready to hit the ground running as development practitioners. Fellows work directly with villagers to identify needs and to use their newly acquired skills to help villagers learn how to fix them. We teach you and you teach a village. See how this works? One person can make such a huge difference.

Prerequisites:
- Established peer-reviewed expert in your field
- Willingness to impart knowledge for the greater good
You spent years of hard work, time, and effort amassing all the knowledge in your brain. Countless nights without sleep, drinking anything with caffeine in it so that you can analyze one more piece of data, read one more report, examine one more piece of evidence. Well now is your time to have that knowledge go to work for you. Your knowledge of alternative energy sources, malaria treatments in rural Congo, geology in the Eastern Cape, whatever your expertise is - it is needed. Imagine if all the experts in the world sat down at a computer and downloaded all of their thoughts and knowledge. Now imagine if all of that knowledge was used to teach villages to help themselves – to pull themselves out of poverty and to create a sustainable prosperity with the collective knowledge of all us. Seems like a pretty powerful system, huh?
Prerequisites:
- Operating an organization that is working in the developing world
Our aim is not to replace any organization that is operating in the developing world. Why? Because we believe in you. We believe you are doing great work and we want to help you do more of it. We want to connect you to as many people as possible and let you do what you do best. Villages need your help and they want to access your services. That’s where we come in. When you sign up with Village Corps you are gaining all the expertise, staff, resources and know how of everyone in our network. You no longer have to do it alone.
Prerequisites:
- Want to take your Corporate Social Responsibility to the next level
We need your help for this to work. Plain and simple. Pulling people out of poverty takes innovation, leadership, and resources. These are characteristics that made your business a success, so why not apply them to sustainable development. We need partners in every sector of business to join us in alleviating poverty. Donate you product, your services, share with us your latest innovation. We need your help to make a difference.
Prerequisites:
- A place of higher learning
- Desire to get hands-on research
Where would the world be without academia? The stone-age? Without academia to tell us there was a stone-age we might never know. The point being every great leap in society has come from people pushing the limit, by thinking different, and doing things far ahead of their time. We like to think of ourselves of having a little bit of that spirit too, but we need your help to make sure we go far enough. You are the suppliers of knowledge, of eager students, and innovative methods of change. Please come and join us and turn academia into practice.
Prerequisites:
- Ability to fight through bureaucracy
- Willingness to work with non-government partners
Chances are you are already doing so much to help your people. You have at your disposal statistics, experts, policy makers, and the will of the people. You can help us find the villages that need the most help. We want to collaborate with you in the work you are already doing and provide funding, expertise, and private-sector innovation to help bolster the change you are trying to make in your community. We believe in a system where villages help themselves, and together we can make that happen.
Prerequisites:
- Need for your money to make more of a difference than it ever has before.
- Desire to monitor the effects of your donation in real-time with real results.
You here it all the time – throwing money at a problem is no solution. We agree completely! When there is no system of tracking the flow of money, there is no accountability and worse – no results. Every dollar, rand, euro, rupee, peso that you contribute goes directly to the villagers needs. These needs are established with the assistance of a Village Corps fellow by the village. If they need dairy cows, your money goes to building a dairy farm, supplying livestock, and training farmers at innovative ways to get the most out of their cows. If the village needs a well, they get the expertise of geologists, biologists, and sustainable water experts to help in designing and building the most efficient well possible. There needs come first and your donation has an immediate impact.
Prerequisites:
- The belief that what happens in your community matters.
- You understand that your prosperity is inextricably wed to the prosperity of villagers in your community
Access to credit and capital are essential to building sustainable prosperity. It allows a village to make sound investments in basic needs, such as farming, electricity, and water. The amazing part about working at the village level is that one loan to one villager can have such an impact. Imagine a loan to a farmer for the purchase of one cow. That one cow will provide milk that can be sold to other villagers so they can have the necessary protein they need to thrive. After enough profits are made from selling cheese and milk, another cow can be purchased. Now that villager you gave your initial loan to can hire someone who has been unemployed. Now there are two cows producing milk and even more villagers are getting the necessary nutrition they need. Maybe another villager sees the success the farmer had and decides to start their own business. This time a chicken farm. Wow! Now a village has two sustainable farms, both providing food and employment for a village that desperately needed it. And it all started with that one small loan for a cow.
Prerequisites:
- Live away from home
- Desire to make a difference back in your community.
Your community back home is probably already depending on you. Perhaps, it is through the remittances that you send home. Perhaps, it is through the fundraising you participate in. Maybe it is simply because you never forgot about them, and keep your culture alive in your new home. Village Corps was created so that every village that wants help can get it. We are depending on people like you to get involved and take ownership of the efforts.
